A trip to Hong Kong
Franco- Chinese Student Exchange Programme

After the trip in France, it was time for the teachers and students to come visit us in Hong Kong. As the host, we prepared a lot of different activities for them so that they can have an immersive and joyful learning experience in Hong Kong.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to all students, staff and teachers for representing LCP well and helping to organize this wonderful trip for our visitors from France. Having to schedule so many different activities for the French students and teacher to take part in is quite a tall task, and I was glad that everything went smoothly.

In this authentic experience in Hong Kong, I could tell that both teachers and students from France love Hong Kong. To start with, they spent time shopping in some iconic markets and streets in Hong Kong. For instance, they went to Stanley market, and they visited one of their favorite places in Hong Kong – Mong Kok. At the same time, together with the LCP students and teachers, we got to step foot in some historical sites and temples in Hong Kong. For them, it was an eye-opening experience as they walk through the entrances of temples and learn the histories of Hong Kong. For us, we embraced this opportunity to help them understand our culture and clear their doubts about our hometown.

Apart from visiting, it was also important to introduce our local food to our visitors. After bringing them around in Hong Kong, we learned that they enjoyed most food and drinks in Hong Kong. For example, the French teachers and students express their love on our street food such as mochi and egg waffles. They enjoyed the flavorful dim sum as well. By eating and mingling with them, we realized that they have a more layback and relaxed lifestyle compared to us, and they valued their time eating and chatting with families and friends.

With LCP students, the French group also went through some cultural immersion and learning experiences. First, we invited the French teachers and students to take part in our Rummikub contest. In the contest, students from France got the chance to play against students from other school in Hong Kong as well as contestants from mainland China. Some French students even manage to triumph and win the contest. It was a great experience for local and the French students as they get to know each other by having fun with the game. For culture immersion, the French students get to visit many places in Hong Kong. For example, they leant about some of the Chinese traditions and practices by visiting the famous village, Lam Chuen. In the meantime, they also get to participate in different culture activities in our school such as Chinese opera class, library visit, and they even shared their insights with us at the hall. This helps us develop a newfound understanding about France and the world, it also helps establish a mutual respect between our cultures and the French ones.

Once again, we would like to thank our friends from France for their active participation and appreciation of our culture. Having the French teachers and students in Hong Kong is a great chance for us to embrace cultural diversities and broaden our horizons of the world. I am certain that both LCP and the French students learn a lot from each other, and we look forward to meeting our French friends again, À bientôt.
